Magazine Questionnaire and Analysis of Questionnaire
Questionnaire Analysis
We created a questionnaire to ask the public here at EN
their thoughts on a college magazine. We found out that a staggering 90% of
people do not read the college magazine. This shows that the college are not
promoting it enough or it’s just not appealing to the students. 85% of people
said they would only pay up to 50p for the magazine with many of these saying
they would not pay any money at all for a college magazine. When we asked about
how often they wanted the magazine to be published, 35% of people said it
should be released monthly with 25% saying fortnightly. Weekly and Half-Termly
had 20% of the votes each. This is more split than the previous questions but
it tells us that we should aim to release it monthly.
We
asked the students what they would like to see in the magazine, to do this we
gave them ten choices and asked them to pick the three that interest them the
most. The top five responses were: Student Tips, College Events news, a Gig
Guide, Fashion news and Local Events news. These will be the cover lines of the
magazine because the majority of people wanted these in the magazine, that way
when they see them on the cover, they are more inclined to buy the magazine. In
a separate question, 95% of people said they would like a jobs page in the
magazine.
When
asking about the colours that would attract them to the cover, the top five
responses were: Blue, Black, White, Red and Purple. We now need to figure out
which of these go well with each other and create the cover based on that.
We then went on to ask students about the main cover image.
75% said students or a student’s work. We would need to make a decision based
on this but for this task, we will be using an image of a student. When asking
about fonts, there was no conclusive result for the cover fonts. We know that
we need to use fonts that are modern and contemporary as we are aiming this at
students. Similarly, when asking about titles, there was no conclusive answer,
however the acronym EN came up a lot so we know we should use this in the
title.
College Magazine Analysis
This college magazine uses five different colours and four
different fonts which is about average. The magazine positively portrays a
young, black student as a hard working, religious and well-educated man. This
is shown by the books in his hand and the cross he is wearing. The book is
called “Law, Business and Society”. These are all quite strenuous, academic
subjects which require a lot of work and effort. This is a complete contrast from the negative
way that young, black men are often portrayed as in the media. The cover lines
show it is a college magazine with articles relating to college life and
technology. The masthead is easy to recognise as it is very large and says
“College Lifestyle”. This has the same design each issue so students who like
it will find it easier in the shops. The dark background means that the green,
white and pink stand out more. This helps it catch the eye of anybody browsing
the shops. It has a very modern house style. This will attract the younger
generation, who are the target audience of the magazine.
